Kate Spade Keds

Or as I like to call them; Perfection south of my ankles.

Kate Spade is one of my favorite and most brilliant designers this world has ever known (behind Lilly Pulitzer of course!) And she has recently put out a line of Keds tennis shoes which I have just absolutely fallen in love with! The only thing that I could not handle about them is their price tag. For a whopping $75 (EEEK) These babies can be yours!

OR For a whopping $19 THESE pretties can be yours!!

Literally almost identical...or maybe i'm just biased because I MADE THESE! Yes you are entitled to your wrong opinion if you don't agree but they are basically identical!

After falling in love with the originals, I remembered that almost year round Target sells plain white Keds looking shoes so almost immediately I took a little trip down there. I managed to pick up most of my supplies there.

Mossimo white tennis shoes: $15
Gold paint pen (Hobby Lobby): $3
Hott Pink Sharpie: $1

First I removed the shoelaces.

Then I started on the pink stripe that goes all the way around the bottom of the shoe.
This step was the biggest pain. The rubber of the shoe DID NOT like the pink Sharpie.

Then I started on the gold dots! Make sure they're very random.

Then to add a little extra flair I decided to color the end of the shoelaces gold just like Kate Spade had done.

And just like that you're all done! Move over Kate Spade! There's a new girl in town!

These pictures don't quite do them justice, but I am just beside myself over these! They make me squeal!!

P.S. Starbucks just released the most ADORABLE coffee mug and I just HAD to have it!! It has so much Kate Spade in it. For goodness sake it has a TUTU!! Also since my boyfriend just got a knockoff Keurig coffee maker I needed something to drink my warm drinks in!

Please try and tell me this isn't the cutest thing you've ever laid your pretty little eyes on (besides my shoes of course)

Crockpot Fever!

Oddly, I decided to start up my blog yet again randomly, and as I signed on I saw that the last time I did  a blog was one year ago yesterday! SO WEIRD! This calls for a celebration, HERE'S A POST!

So with many events going on in my life and me basically almost living with my two best friends, (my boyfriend and his best friend) I have grown a very fond liking to their Crockpot. I have never owned a Crockpot before (GASPS) I know I know! I am a 22 year old woman and Ii have never owned a Crockpot! My name should be cursed! That just means I have alot of making up to do! My awesome mom also let me use hers which is a little bigger ( since the boys eat more than cows) and sometimes it's harder to squeeze all the food I'm making for the three, four, or five of us. (depending on it the neighbors are eating) Five boys + One girl = ALOT OF FOOD! And alot of opportunities for opinions! And I love opinions other than my own when it comes to cooking!

And hopefully after Christmas I will officially have my very own Crockpot. I've got my eye on this beauty from Target that just screams "LACEY!"
Anyways! Now that I'm in the process of becoming the Crockpot Queen, I've been trying out various recipes. (All of which have been successful so far!) This one however is great for a chilly fall/winter day like today here in Tennessee!! Here we all sit snuggled up by the Christmas tree (yes its November 19 and we have our tree up) watching basketball on TV and eating this amazing Crockpot Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup! I got this recipe from pinterest! Here's the original post!

http://www.pinterest.com/pin/56224695321687727/

Without further or due, here it is! Crockpot Chicken Noodle Soup!
First I chopped up four stalks of celery, one whole onion, and a bunch of little baby carrot minis!
Aren't these colors just breathtakingly beautiful???

Next I added three large chopped chicken breasts.(but I could've added more)
And one container of chicken broth. (also could've used more)
We added some salt, pepper, and a little crushed red pepper.
We let it set on high for about three hours until the chicken was almost done, then we chopped up the chicken even more, almost shred it. And let it cook for three more hours on high.
THEN
Add three cups of extra wide noodles and let set for thirty minutes before you chow down on this beauty.

I don't like my soup extra soupy so this one turned out almost like a stroganoff. MAN was it a good stroganoff! If you wanted it soupier, there was soupier parts at the bottom. This recipe is HIGHLY recommended, and has been approved by my boys!

Glossy vs. Matte

not just regular paint, nail polish of course.
I've always, always, always been a glossy girl. A pretty polished shiny top coat has always done it for me. But there's a new trend in town and until recently I have not been a big fan of it at all. But i finally broke down and decided to try it after I saw a gorgeous picture on Pinterest of OPI Russian Navy in a beautiful matte finish top coat and i just knew I had to try it.

When it comes to nail polish, I like any girl, has her favorite brands. I've always been an OPI and or Essie girl. That is until I became a broke college student trying to get by. Every once in a while I can splurge on OPI or Essie but for as much as I love and like to change my nail polish color, a more affordable brand was in store for me. The fact that I have discovered NYC and Wet and Wild nail polish just makes me so happy. From .99 cents to $1.99, I can find almost exactly the same nail polish color for almost ten dollars less. Today I was looking for a matte top coat.

The overall favorite matte top coat and the obvious choice would be Essie's Matte About You, but at $8.99 at least, I just couldn't bring myself to test it. So I set out on a mission.

and here are the results!! I found at Walmart for $1.99 NYC's Matte Me Crazy. The reviews were even better than Essie's and the price was unbelievable! After trying it out on top of my simple red polish, I fell in love. Tomorrow, Russian Navy will be tested, but for now here a preview of the difference i found online.

This picture is Essie's Matte about you over Russian Navy.

Next, This is NYC's Matte Me Crazy over Russian Navy.

I even like the bottom one better!! I cannot wait to try it out tomorrow!!

Stay tuned for Thursdays post. I get to make my Lilly Pulitzer Gingerbread house with the family!!!

Kardashian Red

Ever since i tried out for the Titans cheerleading squad back in May, I have been getting my nails done. For 20 years i bit my nails down to the smallest most painful nub. I tried to stop a few times but just kept going back to my awful nervous habit, until i discovered acrylics!

Bein the poor college student that i am, sometimes I cannot afford to get my nails done every two weeks on the dot, so this week i decided to file them down a bit and repaint them myself.

Anyone that knows me knows that I am not exactly the "classic red" nail color type girl, but i decided to give it a trial run anyways. Incorporating my love of the Kardashians, Kourtney being my favorite, i figured why not try Kardashian Kollection color by the name of

KOURT is RED-Y for a PEDI RED ?

Then i saw the price tag and my bank account just couldn't seem to let me buy a red nail polish that i was still unsure about even if it did in fact have my favorite Kardashian's name on it for $8. So I hunted through the beauty isles at Rite Aid. The color i came up with that the swatch was almost identical is called
                                    Everybody Loves Redmond
Also, I don't wear nail polishes that don't have a good name or even a name at all. So with a clever name like this, i had to have it. Especially since it was only $1.99 And might i say i'm in love!!

On an even better note, I tried a new nail polish remover that BoobsOnBlonde has recommended forever and i will never be buying another again. Its a sponge you just twirl your finger in and the polish is gone!!

Might i add, it was only $1.39 =)
Also theres my red nails that i'm extremely happy with!

Kourtney Kardash ain't got nothin on me!

Definitely going to do another post like this soon, but for now i'll leave you with my current favorite video. "Can ya'll monogram these??"

Spring Break

Normal 20 year olds do something exciting on their spring break like going to the beach with all of their friends.
I however did not have that luxury this year. Two of my best friends/roommates were out of the country studying abroad while i was stuck in white house alone. So i decided to call up my best friend Shelby for a fun, week long, spring break craft. Since she was on Spring Break also but had to work it worked out just fine!! She works from 6am-8am and 1:30pm-6pm so basically every hour she was free, she was with me. she pretty much became a resident of the Denton household for a week.

before...

Day 1 didnt start out the way we wanted it to. Day 1 was actually extremely bad. My boy and i spray painted the coolers while Shelby was at work. Turns out, even when the spray paint can says yoou dont have to sand the plastic down before painting it, you still need to sand it...otherwise the paint chips right off. i was too horrified of this event to take a picture of it so here it is after we sanded and painted it again. Day one consisted of striping every chip of paint off. So heres day two, after we painted it...again.

side one, i wanted to be my monogram from the start. heres the border.

beauty in the simple things.

heres work in progress on side one. which i just adore. the stripes are for victorias secret cause i love that store and the bow because i love bows.

heres work in progress side number two. Also day 3. The southern belle secret is because im from and love the south. plus i always have a koozie on me. it says "Southern belle secret #42: always keep a koozie in your purse,car/truck, or kitchen. The middle is...Sound it out loud. Te-Bow. Tebow! My favorite player, obviously. Moving down to my favorite teams, NFL Tennessee Titans and NCAA Florida Gators.

heres work in progress side 3 or the back. This was day 4 of spring break and its finally starting to c ome along nicely. To the left we have the princess half. Need i explain? To the right theres Sex and the City and Cupcakes. Two of my favorite things.

Work in progress side number 4, the last side. This side is a random side of everything that needed to be on there and wasn't yet. it was hard to incorporate everything but fun like a puzzle at the same time. except for i hate puzzles...
Wanna see the final results???

side one!

side two!

side three!

and side four!
Wondering how we got everything to look so precise and perfect? I found a trasfer method using newspaper. You print off the image you want, cut it out, put a clip from a dark newspaper page underneath it on the cooler and trace hard with a pencil. When you remove them both, the image will be there for you to trace! Also, paint pens were a dreammmmmm.

this is shelby front and side!!

i was very very happy with the way both of ours turned out! she isnt very creative so it was totally out of her comfort zone. bless her heart she did so good!! We had so much fun. lots of much needed girl time. plus whats better than spending spring break with your best friend jammin, paintin, and attempting to win Luke Bryan tickets?

What did you guys do over spring break? bet you cant beat mine :)
